IN MEMORIAM

• Prof. Ing. Eduard Plško, DrSc. (1930–2021) – Founder of the Bratislava Spectroscopy School and pioneer of atomic spectrometry in Czechoslovakia. Long-time member of IUPAC’s Spectrochemical Commission, editorial boards of international journals, and recipient of the Nicolaus Konkoly-Thege and Jan Marek Marci medals. A gifted polyglot, educator, and respected colleague.


• Dr. Bohumil Dočekal (1950–2021) – Expert in solid sampling and atomic spectrometry at the Institute of Analytical Chemistry (Academy of Sciences, Brno). Developer of methods for elemental analysis and nano-particle toxicity studies. Deputy chair of the Jan Marek Marci Spectroscopic Society and recipient of its Marci Medal.


• Prof. Tibor Kántor (1930–2021) – Renowned for contributions to flame, arc and plasma spectroscopy. Held professorships in Budapest, authored key monographs on metal analysis, chaired Hungary’s Spectrochemical Association, and was honored by multiple European spectroscopic societies.


• Prof. Bernhard Welz (1936–2018) – Leader of applied atomic spectroscopy research at PerkinElmer (Germany) and later in Brazil. Co-author of seminal monographs on AAS and ICP spectroscopy. Award-winner of the Marci Medal and a major figure in continuous-source AAS.


• RNDr. Jiří Toman (1935–2016) – Developer of activation analysis at Řež and later VÚČCH Lachema, inventor of REE coincidence tables for spectrographs, and pioneer of hydride generation and ICP-OES methods. Long-time SSJMM organizer and consultant.


• RNDr. Zdeněk Slovák, CSc. (1937–2019) – All-round spectroscopist at VÚČCH Lachema. Specialized in graphite furnace AAS, flow injection techniques and plasma spectrometry. Honorary member of the Slovak Spectroscopic Society and IMMS.


• Ing. Miloslav Vobecký, CSc. (1929–2019) – Founder of instrumental radioanalytical methods group, led lunar sample analyses for Apollo missions. Developer of graphite-arc, CVG and ICP methods. Long-time SSJMM vice-chair and awardee of the Majer and Marci medals.
