Converting GCMS Methods to GCMS/MS Methods

Many labs are currently faced with the challenge of migrating quantitative gas chromatography methods from single quadrupole to tandem quadrupole mass spectrometers. A variety of Agilent’s GCMS MassHunter Acquisition software tools can help streamline this endeavor.
Participants will also gain an understanding of the advantages of method development in highly sensitive Dynamic MRM mode, which saves a large amount of time compared to conventional method development usually done by manually determining time segments and the transitions they contain. The process and advantages of Retention Time Locking will also be discussed as it pertains to maintaining desired time segments after column and injection port maintenance.
Presenter: Kirk Lokits, PhD (GC/MS Applications Scientist, Agilent Technologies, Inc.)
Kirk began working on HP instrumentation as a Forensic Drug Chemist for the Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory in Dayton, Ohio and as a Forensic Toxicologist & Crime Laboratory Analyst Supervisor for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. In 1990 Kirk left the forensic realm and began his tenure with HP/Agilent Technologies, working as a Customer Support Engineer (CE) supporting the LC, GC, LCMS, GCMS, and ICPMS products. In 2003, Kirk earned his M.S. in Chemistry from Middle Tennessee State University and in 2005 Kirk left Agilent Technologies to attend the University of Cincinnati and earned his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry under Dr. Joseph Caruso.
After receiving his Ph.D., Kirk was employed by the Midwest Research Institute (MRI) in Kansas City, MO where he worked as a Principal Chemist and Sr. Program Manager on Department of Defense projects, staffing, designing, and building remote laboratories for deployments throughout the world. In April of 2014, Kirk re-joined Agilent Technologies as an Applications Scientist for the GC/MS product lines. When not on the road, Kirk enjoys working on his house in the mountains of VA and spending time with his 9 kids and 7 grandkids.
