Sample Preparation Options for the Clinical Research Laboratory

Particular emphasis will be on solid-supported liquid extraction (SLE) and enhanced protein precipitation since these techniques allow for a high level of cleanliness and reproducibility with a minimum investment of time and labor. Matrices discussed in the presentation include urine, serum, and plasma but questions regarding alternative matrices (tissues, umbilical cord, meconium, etc) can be addressed in the open questions forum at the end of the presentation. The strategies discussed can be applied to a wide range of small molecules such as pharmaceuticals, endogenous hormones and vitamins, and biomarkers.
