Netěkavé nebo vysokomolekulární složky mohou kontaminovat stacionární fázi, což vede ke zhoršení rozlišení píků, nižší přesnosti analýzy a zkrácení životnosti kolony. Odříznutí poškozené části kapilární kolony často dočasně obnoví její účinnost, postupem času však dochází k degradaci, která znemožní další použití kolony. Pokud pozorujete rychlý pokles účinnosti separace, existuje několik jednoduchých způsobů, jak kolonu lépe chránit a prodloužit její životnost.<h3>Používejte liner se skelnou vatou</h3>Liner je první obrannou linií kolony a jeho volba má zásadní vliv na množství kontaminantů, které se mohou dostat do kolony. Nejjednodušším řešením je použití lineru s malým množstvím silanizované skelné vaty, která zachycuje netěkavé složky a zabraňuje jejich přímému vstupu do kolony.<blockquote>Upozornění: Skelná vata může zvyšovat aktivitu vůči kyselinám, zásadám a pesticidům. Drcení skelné vaty může odhalit nedeaktivované sklo a volné silanolové skupiny (–OH), a to i v případě, že byla vata původně deaktivována. To vede ke zvýšené aktivitě a horší reprodukovatelnosti, proto se důrazně doporučuje používat předplněné linery, nikoli linery plněné svépomocí.</blockquote>Kromě volby lineru se skelnou vatou dbejte také na to, aby byl liner (stejně jako ostatní spotřební materiál) bez nahromaděných nečistot, které se mohou v průběhu času vytvářet. Zbytky ze sept, jádra sept a další částice se mohou zachytit ve skelné vatě a často nejsou na první pohled patrné. Pravidelná výměna lineru (a dalšího spotřebního materiálu dle potřeby) pomáhá omezit potřebu řešení problémů a zjednodušuje údržbu systému.<h3>Vypalujte kolonu (bake-out)</h3>Nejjednodušším způsobem, jak snížit kontaminaci kolony, je zařadit krátký vysokoteplotní „bake-out“ (vypalování) na konec standardní GC metody. Tento krok pomáhá odstranit vysokovroucí kontaminanty, které by jinak v koloně zůstávaly a způsobovaly její poškození.Při vypalování musí být konečná teplota pece nastavena dostatečně vysoko, aby došlo k eluování těchto složek, ale zároveň nesmí být překročena teplota, při které by došlo k tepelnému poškození kolony. Vypalování lze provádět buď izotermicky, nebo – častěji – postupným zvyšováním teploty pece až do eluce posledních složek z kolony.<blockquote>Upozornění: Nikdy nepřekračujte maximální povolenou provozní teplotu kolony. Při izotermickém provozu nepřekračujte horní teplotní limit kolony po dobu delší než 15 minut.</blockquote>

Ačkoliv moderní zemědělství potřebuje vycházet z přesných dat o půdních, rostlinných i environmentálních podmínkách v reálném čase, cenově dostupná, dostatečně citlivá a zároveň robustní monitorovací zařízení pro tento účel v současné době chybí. Jako vhodné řešení se podle vědců nabízí nízkonákladové senzory založené na nových chytrých materiálech a technologiích tisku. Dosavadní výsledky multiioborového výzkumu i návrhy na vývoj těchto zařízení představili výzkumníci z Česka, Velké Británie, Španělska i USA v přehledovém článku v prestižním časopise <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-026-68778-6#Abs1">Nature Communications</a>.„Senzorické technologie pro monitorování zdraví rostlin jsou stále v plenkách. Pokud však mají zemědělci čelit současným výzvám včetně klimatických změn a zajistit pro lidstvo dostatek potravy, potřebují mnohem účinnější pomocníky, jež jim umožní monitorovat například i různé patogeny včetně bakterií či plísní. The food industry spends a lot of time and effort analyzing products for their flavors and off-flavors. This analysis is very important since we all like our products to consistently taste the same.
In the last few years, we have seen a tendency in the food market to go towards vegan products and lactose-free products. The composition of vegan food is mainly plant-based, but not all plants taste the same. For example, soy and lupine — in some people — cause a bitter aftertaste. Since our taste buds are all different, not every one tastes the same thing.
This is where off-flavors come in. Off-flavors are considered those that are “not tasty,” ranging from bitter to rancid. If you buy a strawberry yogurt, you may want it to taste the same whether it is dairy or plant-based. This is often not the case. For the food industry, consistency in taste is a very important factor, since they don`t want their products to sit on the shelf.
